Or: Some notes to myself
- On natural experiments: Somewhere around the world nature creates the experiment we need. We just have to learn to look.
- The real commitment and value of being honest/transparent/open can only be estimated when there is a price to pay.
- Short sentences get less credit than they deserve.
- Never fall in love with the median.
- To use predictions effectively, depend on them as little as possible.
- In other words: If very little loss incurs when a prediction is wrong, one can make the most out of them. This is because failure is cheap and learning how to use them or being correct can bring a lot of benefits.
- I currently (i.e.: 2024) believe that there should be a scale-dependence for the relationship of humans and ideas:
- On a personal level (oneself): Ideas over humans. Try to live up to your ideals as much as you can.
- On an intermediate level (families, friend-groups, small villages, etc.): Case dependency. There should exist a continuous back-and-forth discourse between ideas and the individuals.
- On a high level (cities, states, countries, etc.): Humans over ideas. Large-scale entities should care more about the well-being of humans than about ideals, beliefs and visions.
